This is a real-life case study of the process to set up a PseudoTUBE video site
Could this be the fastest way to start an online business? |

About Lorin Wiener
I'm a magician with over 10 years of experience, focusing on close-up magic, mentalism, mind reading and pure trickery.
I'm also an entrepreneur and run a magic based website (www.sharperminds.com)
and have developed magic trick software for hand held PDAs. The team at
PseudoTUBE asked me for an article on how easy it was to set up
a video site and I was more than happy to help. So how easy
was it to start www.iphonenuggets.com?
|
|
|
Picking PseudoTUBE as the web platform
I discovered the PseudoTUBE system and looked at carheaven.tv as a reference site. With in a few minutes
of viewing I liked what I saw. It made perfect sense to use this system as it would provide me with
another website and income stream with very little work and most importantly, no development time.
Having an idea: 20 minutes
|
Next I wondered what topic I could make a site about. My existing sites are about magic but it
looked like someone else already did a site on magic. So I thought some more, but this time
had making money a priority. I wanted to think of a topic that would attract visitors but
more importantly visitors who were likely to click on an ad so I could make money on the
click through.
|
|
With all the buzz about the new iPhone coming out and all the various hacks
out there for it, I thought users might be looking for videos about the iPhone, wanting
to view the keynote speech video from Apple, wanting to know how to hack existing iPhones.
The next thing I thought was that someone who has an iPhone usually wants or needs accessories
and that the focus of the advertisements on the site could be iPhone accessories.
|
|
Someone who
could afford the iPhone was probably willing to afford the accessories and bother to click on
an ad. It only took a few moments to come up with that idea.
|
Getting the domain name: 1 hour 40 minutes
|
Next came a search for a domain name. That's probably the hardest part of setting up a PseudoTube site!
It took about 1.5 hours to think and research a domain name as many were already taken.
I finally thought of iPhoneNuggets.com to indicate that the site
|
|
aggregates the iPhone video "Gems" from the web.
Namely the best videos out there related to the Apple iPhone.
The domain setup on GoDaddy only took about 10 minutes since I already
had an account there
and knew how to do it.
|
|
Basically you just create an account, select a domain name, pay for it electronically,
and it parks it for you until you specify the name servers for it.
|
Changing the DNS name servers: 2 minutes
Using Godaddy.com I changed the name servers to the ones provided. This is a really simple
process. Just change name server #1 and name server #2. That took about 2 minutes.
With in 2 hours the name server settings had kicked in all over the world and iPhoneNuggets.com
was up and running in my browser.
Paper work: 5 minutes
Whilst waiting for the name servers to change I completed the terms & conditions and sent them
to the PseudoTUBE team. This only took a few minutes and it is important to have
clearly defined terms for any new business venture.
Setting up the site: 20 minutes
|
The PseudoTUBE team then sent me back a username and password which allowed me to set up my site. The manager was easy to
use and I set up the site description, title and logo.
|
|
I needed no support to complete this but it was
nice to know that help was only an email away if I needed it.
I then placed adverts in the manager tool
which would appear on my site.
|
|
I was already a user of Google Adsense ™ and it took about 20 minutes to
design the adverts and cut & paste them in to the manager.
|
Adding videos: 20 minutes
|
Next I ran RSS feeds in the PseudoTube manager for YouTube, Metacafe, and Revver to fill my pending video queue.
It took me about 20 minutes to figure it all out then I started screening and approving videos.
|
|
That's the hands on dirty work that is time consuming but makes the site better. You might ask, `why
visit my site when I could use Youtube?` The videos on iphonenuggets.com are approved by hand so only the best
are selected.
|
|
I would do the work of screening them so the site only had relevant and worthy videos.
If you want iphone information, then you know it will be good at iphonenuggets.com!
|
Summary
2 hours 47 minutes! That's how much time I spent starting my new web business. Of course there will
be more time spent adding new videos and working on promotion in the future but think how long
it would have taken without PseudoTUBE. If you are new to web development then you wouldn't even
have time to read a book on HTML. If you are an expert then you wouldn't even
complete the graphics required, never mind making a start on the code.
Lorin runs iphonenuggets.com on the business package and takes 80% of the advert income as well
as additional income from newsletters and system sales. If you think you can beat Lorin's set up
time then please let us know.
